The Rassenans are the people of The World. The crown chakra – centered on the top of the head and represented by the color white – is the energy source related to radiated pure consciousness. It controls inner knowing and connects physical action with meditation, mental action with unity, and emotional action with consciousness. Attributes associated with the crown chakra are active – proactive and reactive, creative and destructive, expansive and growing.
Physically, Rassenans are the mutts of central Erde, showing characteristics of all the tribal peoples who were absorbed as Rasnan hegemony grew in extent. As such, the tallest, shortest, thinnest, and heaviest people on Erde are probably all Rassenan – it’s difficult to arrive at an average height, weight, or coloring for Rassenans, since their diversity so broad and the standard deviation so high as to make the calculation meaningless. Slightly more consistent is Rasnan dress, running to the standard tunic and cloak, with some wide trousers, but many Rassenans adopt the fashions of their bordering states or maintain their own ancient tribal traditions, so diversity is still the norm.
Less than two millennia ago, Rassena was a small tribal community in central Erde. As the wave of Erdan history washed over it, Rassena took advantage of every opportunity to extend its domain. From the Snowfall Rebellion to the March to the Sea, Rassena has increased its territory to include most of the Erdan central plain, from mountward Belenus to the coast and from the Seaward Spine to the Fog Range, encompassing landscapes as diverse as any found in Hirokoa or the Haan Lands. Rassenans live in tiny villages, small towns, and crowded cities.
As it grew, Rassena advanced through appropriation, adaptation and codification. Moving from tribe to kingdom to empire to republic, Rassena never met a culture it didn’t like and want to make its own. Technologies, philosophies, political structures, religious beliefs – anything Rassena encountered somehow became Rasnan. Although it is the youngest civilization except for Hirokoa, the Rasnan Republic has managed to thrust itself to the center of Erdan geopolitics, either by conquest or commerce.
Rassena, in its characteristic expansiveness and wide reach, contains many things. It is a nominal republic, and indeed for many affairs of state the Rasnan Senate has final say; yet behind the scenes, a plutocracy of generals, nobles, and merchants works to make sure the ship of state sails in the direction they want. Rasnan culture traditional holds women in a subservient position to men; yet while the cultural narrative has not changed, it is ignored in the expediency of getting things done to the extent that Rasnan women have, for all practical purposes, equal status with men. The Rasnan Republic manages roads, hospitals, and public services throughout a huge nation with a civil service second only to the Haan; yet civil wars are still not unknown in human memory. Rassenans are capable of great things and have brought civilization to many a benighted village neglected by Attika or Atalantis; yet Rassena in its imperialist goals has committed some of the worst brutality known to Erde.
Rassenan religion is as diverse as its other aspects: deities from Attika, Atalantis, and even Hirokoa, mythological figures from the Haan lands, and indigenous tribal gods have all been blended into a huge pantheon, under which every town and village, every point and purpose, has a patron. These god influence individuals through our energies – or vis – which Rassenans see not as spinning wheels or lines of force, but as auras surrounding each person in layers. The color of the dominant aura will glow the brightest to those who can see such things, and if a particular vis has been neglected or shut off, its color will not be discernable at all.
Rassenans should, through their connection to the crown vis, have the world at their feet be able to accomplish all they want. Yet perhaps that connection to so much power is unmanageable. Like their god Palat, the white owl deity of ancient Rassena, Rassenans are both beautiful and terrible, both wise and violent.
